About

I've spent 18 years building and leading engineering teams at companies ranging from 4-person startups to 600-person scaleups. I've served as CTO twice (both acquired), VP Engineering at two public SaaS companies, and fractional CTO to 14 companies since 2019. My focus is on the hard problems non-technical founders face: hiring the first engineers, setting architecture that survives growth, and building a culture that doesn't collapse when you hit 40 people. I don't write code in engagements — I make the decisions that let your engineers write better code.

Experience highlights

At Rippling I led the team that shipped the core HR platform from 12 to 80 engineers in 18 months — without a quality regression or a major architectural rewrite. That required building a hiring process, a technical roadmap process, and a performance management system simultaneously, while shipping features every week.

Before that, I was CTO at Workbright (HR onboarding SaaS, acquired by Arcoro in 2022) and Kalo (workforce management, acquired by Beeline). Both exits were acqui-hires where the technology was specifically cited as a driver of valuation.

As a fractional CTO, I've worked with 14 companies. My most common entry point is a Series A company with a non-technical CEO, 4–8 engineers, and no real engineering leadership. I typically spend the first 90 days on a technical audit, a hiring plan, and resetting the relationship between the product and engineering functions.
